Most designers and developers that I know are always working on new things, many that are well done though are never to be used for anything and just go to waste.

I'm going to start with this site I just Stumbled, because it is SO COOL, and just wow, I love it lol.

First check this site out first real quick, DONTCLICK.IT (it's safe to click it BTW). It's a pretty cool site I just found and thought it was interesting. Don't play with it for long though, you've got plenty to do with all that is listed below!

Okay now that that's out of the way. It's Tool Time!!

Below is a list of 9 different categories, that aren't really categorized that well I will admit. But I did my best, this is a huge list.

1. WordPress Themes, Plugins, Tools and More

You can never have enough WordPress Tools. These are some you may not be aware of, if that's even possible. But in case it is, we wanted to make sure you knew about them. That's why I put them at the top of the list. After all, this site is mainly focused on WordPress stuff right!

2. Code, Developing, Debug, and Minify Tools

A great mix of online coding applications, tools for debugging and fixing errors and also code compression tools.

3. Images, Design, Graphic, and Creative Tools

Anything that has to do with the visual look or design, images and graphics are in this section.

4. CSS 3 Tools Code Tools and Resources

You know about CSS 3 by now I'm sure. Though you probably haven't seen all of these great tools and useful online references and other great things that could make learning CSS 3 so much easier for you.

5. HTML 5, Canvas, SVG Tools and Resources

Are you using HTML 5 yet? It's a great time to start learning it, and here's a great place to start off with too. This has all kinds of cool HTML 5, Canvas, and SVG online tools, quick references and other worthwhile resources.

6. jQuery/JavaScript Tools and Resources

Not the most complete list of jQuery tools I know. That's because there are a zillion other roundups you've probably seen already so I just kept this to the best and most useful. Or just my personal favorites and things I felt deserve being shared.

7. Typopgraphy, Text, and Font Tools

These are the text and type tools to take things you type to a whole new level of fantastic. Typography has become much more widely used with the release of new technologies like the @font-face CSS tag, along with other things like Cufon, and Webkit. Check out these great tools.

8. Even More Miscellaneous Website Tools

Here is a broader range in variety than the previous groups, consisting of collaboration, community building, user feedback, site metrics, speed testing, and numerous other useful tools.

9. Online Tool Roundups and List Posts

Now for the cherry topper, the gigantic list of other gigantic lists, all filled with more various goodies, and delicious chocolatey goodness.

10. If you have made it through this list and are still alive...

Then you're a lier, a cheater and a big fat phoney! No honest designer or developer would/should be able to have made it through this entire list of tools and resource links without skipping down, and in-turn ignoring some great stuff that you'll regret not checking out. Okay, I'm sorry, you're cool.

Which brings me to this rant, and the reason I mentioned at the top of this page why I try to keep these types of posts to a minimum. That's why you won't find too many roundups on this site. Though the one's you will find are worth your time like 15 WordPress 3.0 code snippets or the 12 most commonly posted blog topics which can give you some perspective on how often you see the same things. I know, for me, posts like these (which have already taken over internetz), are very counter-productive for people like me, and you. I mean just making this post, I became quite unproductive, and couldn't stop.

It's okay in moderation, but SOOOO many damn SITES do WAY to MANY posts like this. Just look at the last group of roundup posts above. You can make roundup list posts of other roundups posted all over the web. It's just too much and so stupid, I think so anyways. It would be nice to see more substance and less traffic/ad revenue/lifeless sites/uninteresting sites online. It's so impersonal and has become somewhat, anti-social? Similar to how teenagers these days are more comfortable communicating through online methods, texting, or other ways that aren't in person, or as personal.

I know I've become conditioned to much rather prefer to communicate with people through email, instant messaging, or texting.

This is an addition to the 15 snippets I posted a couple days ago for preparing your theme for WordPress 3.0. These are however, good for anytime, not just 3.0, and some not necessarily only usable in WordPress even..

Use jQuery To Switch CSS Stylesheets

If you create multiple Stylesheets, or themes for your site you can use jQuery to switch them. You could then create a link on the page that links to the Stylesheet file, and this script will switch it for you.

Using Custom Fields To Display Pull Quotes

Using this code you can add pull-quotes to your blog posts using custom fields. You just set up a custom field with the key setting of 'pullquote', and then put your quote in the value field. The style of your <blockquote> is controlled in your CSS. You will have to set that up if you prefer something fancy.

Equal Size Div Heights With jQuery

With this code you can easily make a group of divs, with a specific class or id attribute, have an equal size height. It will get the height of the tallest and add that height to the others. Simply enter the class or id of the divs in here: equalHeight($(".DivClassName li"));.

Always Show Spelling Of WordPress Correctly

This is a great hack to prevent spelling mistakes when you write the word 'Wordpress'. It is a similar hack to Antonio's post title capitalization code.

Fix Exhausted Allowed Memory Issue

If you are one of those that have ever got the error message "Exhausted allowed memory bytes", this is a quick fix for increasing your memory. If this does not work, then you will have to edit the php.ini file. You could try this hack first before you go looking up how to do that.

The very long-awaited all new version of WordPress is being released publicly this weekend, yes, it's true. I know it may sound like insanity but it's the truth.

Update: This didn't get released yet and they are now looking to move on releasing beta 2 soon. There are still a large number of bugs that need fixing so the release date was pushed back again.

First off, you can make things simpler and less stressful by using the new easier 3.0 constants for debugging.

Enabling Multi-sites Capabilities

Since WordPress and WordPress MU (Multi-User) were merged in 3.0 you can now create mutliple separate blog sites on one blog installation. All you have to do is add this to your functions.php file or as an include in it.

Do keep in mind that mulit-site is still very new and subject to change as far as I know. It is still usable though.

Short Little Baby Links

Use shortlinks for submitting links to sites like Twitter or Facebook instead of the long permalink to your post. This will be standard in 3.0 so adding the action would not be necessary.

Better Url Functions For Home, Site And Admin

The new easier way to link to your home url, site url, and admin url of current site OR a given site other than the current one. It's easier than writing bloginfo('url') or get_option('site_url') over and over.
Just another way to get the same information more quickly depending on how you plan to use it.

With the following function snippets you can get or return the current site's:

home_url(); // retrieve the home url of the current site

get_home_url(); // return the home url of the current site

site_url(); // retrieve the url of current site

get_site_url(); // return the url of current site

admin_url(); // the admin url of current site @since 2.6

get_admin_url(); // retrieve the url to the admin area for a GIVEN site, defaults to current

Adding WordPress 3.0 Theme Support

Some things you need to add support for to your theme for use with 3.0 are features like custom backgrounds, and header images, nav menus, and post thumbnails, This It's super easy to add support for custom backgrounds and menus, as well as post thumbnails, which you may have done already since that was released in WordPressP 2.9. If not, might as well do it now right!

Custom backgrounds and menus, however, are all new in 3.0. You just need to add the following to your theme's functions.php file.

Add a simple easy to use login form anywhere you want!!

This is extremely useful, no more need to go to wp-login.php to login. You can drop this little snip into your theme anywhere.

It would be nice if they also added a wp_register_form() but they didn't. Luckily, I have learned how to create jQuery tabs for login register password reset forms and so can you! You'd be surprised how easy it is, but how freaking long it took me to finally figure out.

New Life-saving Comment Form

It's no secret that the comments.php file has always been one of the most annoying files of a theme to create. The comment section for this site for example, took me longer to code than the rest of the entire sites theme template files did put together. Well now, 3.0 is here to save the day with the new simple comment form.

Setting up the custom post type query and loop is similar to the way you would do it for any other custom query using WP_query(). You just have to query the post_type=TYPE and get the posts that have been published.

For more information about creating custom post types you can find more links and resources below for this. This is the most confusing thing added in 3.0 and may not make much sense at first.

Custom CSS Styling Your Post Editor

You can now edit the look of the TinyMCE post form to use your own styles. You just

WordPress Showcase

How could we forget the WordPress.org showcase. It is the first site you should submit yours too by default since after all, it is WordPress.org.

There are new ways to use WordPress found everyday proving just how many things WordPress is capable of. Every time I go online it seems like I become aware of a new and different type of site WordPress is being used for. A perfect example of this is WPVote.com which is a digg-like site that you can submit links to and vote on or "digg". It is a site devoted solely to WordPress news and information too. Which is an invaluable resource for anyone who does anything with WordPress.

Also, by now most everyone is aware of the CSS Gallery sites out there, and you may know that WordPress is capable of being used to create such sites. What you might not know is that there are only a few, that I could find anyways, that are only for showcasing WordPress sites. Feel free to orrect me if I'm wrong, I was only able to find a few. In the future there most likely will be many more, as more and more people create their own WordPress site showcases however.

If you are a fan of WordPress, and I'm sure you are since you're here, you would be a fool not to bookmark these sites, and use them to submit your sites too. Especially to WP Vote, since that is going to become a very great way to promote your site.
