Why A Website Is Never Complete
Polishing Some Things On New2WP
You probably haven't noticed, or maybe you have if you're one of the few frequent visitors of the site, but there have been a number of things around here that have been changed, altered or polished up.
As a web designer, one of the main things I've learned is that any site design or creation, no matter how big or small of a project it may be, is never really a "finished" project. There may be a time of completion or whatever you want to call it, but that doesn't mean there's much more that can be done, and will always exist. Like they say, there's always room for improvement.
Here on New2WP, the overall design and development of the site may be considered more or less complete. However, there are 100's of things I see that can be improved or tweeaked in some way.
I've been making a number of small changes all over the site, in the header, sidebar, main content area and footer, and some of those changes may conflict with pre-existing aspects of the site that could visible to some more than others.
If you happen to notice any parts of the site that don't quite look right, or seem to be broken, please let me know, so I fix them. I've changed so many various things, and in no particularly systematic way of any kind, so I may have overlooked somethings and apologize if there is an issue for you with any part of the site.
Some of the changes made are:
- Upgraded to WordPress 3.0 RC1
- Added support for a number of WordPress 3.0 features
- Changed the main site navigation making use of wp_nav_menu()
- Changes made to link colors, and various text effects and edits overall
- Buttons in the Filter navigation menu
- Fixes of things that were never debugged during original development
- Added social media sharing button counters
- Added a post shortlink at the bottom of each post for easy copy/paste and sharing
- And many other small things all over...
I would appreciate you just dropping a quick comment anywhere on the site if you see an issue with something somewhere. It would make a big job for one person a little easier.
As for why a website is never really complete. That is a topic of discussion which I will elaborate more in detail in a future post. This was just a quick update to note the changes made to this site. When I have more time I'll go further into what I've learned about the endless job of designing a website.
Till then, feel free to comment with you're thoughts or suggestions for the changes on the site. Thanks :)
Oh, and I'm going to a meetup tonight for building and HTML 5 video player presented by W3's Philippe Le Hegaret. So that should be fun. I will post a review of it later. Stay tuned!
