Just installed it. Looks great! Is there any way to turn it on or off? We would like to have it on for guest posts, but for routine posts we would like it removed.

Glad you like it! Right now there is no way to select who the box will show up for and who it won't. The only way to turn it off is by disabling the plugin.

I will try to come up with something like this for you this weekend, or asap. I have a lot more planned for it as well too.

I can email you if/when I add this functionality for you if you like. I will also update this post with any near future updates to version 1.0 as well.

I'm happy you like it. I was working hard last night on adding new features.

In the next version, hopefully this week, it will have features such as:

Option to add a link to Facebook fan page or profile.
Ability to change the colors of it to match your site.
Size of gravatar image.
Pick and choose which users/author levels to display it for.

And more!!

I am still waiting for WordPress to allow me to upload it to the plugin directory (they can be slow in response to that) but once they do, you will be able to upgrade it right from your dashboard. For now though check back here for any updates.

This is just what I was looking for. A lovely plugin. It is a bit too wide for my column. Not a real problem, just doesn't look as nice as it could. I hope you add more options so we could link to Flickr, Facebook, Tumblr, and etc. I wanted to move all my social media networks into this rather than have them cluttering up my blog's sidebar.

Yes I've been working on adding more options. The next version will have things like:

Complete control of the color settings (background, border, heading, text, links)
Ability to change the size of the Gravatar image
Hide/show for different user levels (admin, author, editor, contributor)
Choice to include more social profile links (facebook, youtube, etc.)
Choice of icons for each link
Ability to change the width
Ability to change the location (top or bottom of post)
And more I think...

I am open to any suggestions anyone might have that they'd like to see included too. I have been working hard to make the next release of it 10 times better and am close to completing it.

Thanks for your nice plugin. It looks like WordPress 3.0 has the ability to add the Author's image to his/her profile. Is your plugin able to display that image if the Author doesn't have a gravatar?

Unfortunately no it doesn't. It was a feature I had planned to add in a newer version, but I have not completed making it yet. I've been really busy lately and haven't had much time to work on this.

There are plugins that add that kind of functionality to profiles. I can't think of any off the top of my head besides the Author Image plugin.

Dig the plugin... a couple of things
1) the image seems to not be automatically 'floating left' as relative to the bio (using it on http://www.newcommbiz.com at the moment, and the image pushes the bio down below it)
2) being able to call the box as a function (i.e. ?php the_author_box()) would allow us to place this wherever we like (just like wp-greetbox does)

@Jeremy Try using this version of the plugin instead. I've fixed some of the CSS.
Let me know if it doesn't work any better.

As for making it a function that you can call where ever you want, that's something that would require an option to embed manually or automatically. I haven't had time to finish making the updated version for this, that includes various other options as well. This will be added if/when I finish making an update, hopefully soon.

Oops, my bad sorry. I made a mistake zipping the files correctly. Try re-downloading it and check that there is no subfolders. All the files should be in the same directory.

I like your plugin but is there a way to change the location of the box? It needs to be located below my post but above the related posts area. Thanks.

You can edit the CSS stylesheet file that is included in the zip file of the download. There is no way to do it from the dashboard in the current version.

That would require having the ability to manually embed a code to call a function for showing the box. It's on my list of things to do, but haven't had the time to add it yet. Plugins that are added to the bottom of posts like related posts, and others, are randomly added I believe, so the only way to control the order is to manually embed a function into single.php to call the plugins in the order you want.

Jared, I'm having the same problem that Jeremy was having. The image isn't floating left and is pushing the bio down. I am using the later version that you provided for him. Any way to fix this?

Nevermind. I added float:left; to the .authorbio img and it's working great now.

Ok cool. I don't know why that wasn't already floated left because I know I remember doing that. Glad you were able to fix it.

Cool plugin. Just wanted to say that although I downloaded it and installed it I am going to wait for the updated version because what I want is to give a short bio of guest authors of my blog. Readers already know who I am and I don't need my own author box. I look fwd to that release!

It has some improved CSS and stuff in it. It might be better for you. I haven't had the time to update this plugin to version 2 yet, which I was going to include many added options. I've just not had the time with WPHonors and about 5 other sites Im making too. Its just not a priority at this time.

Let me know if that version works any better though.

@Ileane Try installing this one, and if it doesn't work any better, than I can make a version for you where you edit your single.php file and insert the code for the function itself. Other than that, I don't know how much more help I can give since every theme is different and it's hard to make it work for all themes codes.

haha, i remember when making it i had that problem. my posts disapearing. but i tested this on my local site and it worked fine. I can only guess that your theme conflicts with it somehow.

Maybe I can get Andy to help me out some with it. I started working on the second version of it a long time ago, and added all kinds of options and stuff, full color customizing and everything too. But I've been extremely busy ever since, and unfortunately never finished version 2, and would have to re-learn the code I created for it to finish it up. Time I do not have alot of. I've made other plugins since this, but this is by far the most popular, still...

Hi, Wow, Thank you so much for the plugin. It's almost exactly what I've been searching for with the exception of Facebook missing. My goal is to move your author box from the bottom of the post all the way to the very top like Dave K. has his here: http://webvideouniversity.com/blog/2009/12/02/why-web-video-might-cause-teachers-to-lose-their-jobs/. This makes perfect sense to me, to have it at the very top and all of the blog content below that box. Is there anyway to accomplish this with your plugin?

Thanks for this great plugin - best of the ones I've tried. One question - is there a way ti add the option to only have it show on selected posts? I write a guest blog post weekly for my local arts organization, and want to have the Author info only show on that post. We don;t want to show bios on the other posts which are just news events.

Will this plugin work if I have multiple contributing authors? For example I have a beauty expert who will submit posts, and I would want her info under each of her posts, not mine. If yours does not support this does anyone have any suggestions that are fairly simple..lol!

Yes, that's the main reason I made it. It pulls the info from each users/authors profile and displays the info based on the author of each post. if the fields used from user profiles is not filled in, and they publish a post it will display an empty box, so authors must fill out their profile with at least something so it doesn't show nothing on their posts.

I would also like to ask how I can allow my blog members to upload their own images. The only images I have on my blog are those dump default icons that forces everyone to use what I set, and I notice on this blog, just about every post has their own icon that they have uploaded.

Everyone plus myself likes to get credit for their posts/articles, etc...
The most important thing that I have not seen in your resource
box is the article source url, which should automatic on each post.

ie:

Visit Admins Website > Follow Admin on Twitter
Article Source URL > Other / Custom URL

I had to hack something similar to this together for a recent project. I did a quick search, but couldn't find anything that quite met my needs.

So typically, about a week later, I find this - which would've saved me considerable time!

Does it work with the latest version of WordPress?

I imagine it does, haven't tested it but it's not very complex and uses some of the core things of WP that don't change.

I installed this plugin today and it does not display the box at all on my blog page - any ideas?

It works great except it still comes up on my posts 2 times. I am not sure how to remove the old way it looks so I only show your plugin?

Meaning is shows (bio) above your plugin as well without the picture of box. Any help would be great.
