Guide to Acupuncture and Massage Therapy
The Chinese meridian system of the body looks at the human body as an energy highway. This meridian systems helps us to understand how blood and body fluids permeate the entire body, and an overall energy distribution system. This is different from our circulatory system that western doctors describe to characterize the anatomy and physiology of the physical body, since the meridian flow are those invisible channels where a practitioner of Chinese Medicine must know how and where to access these acupoints of the body to facilitate the healing process of its patient. Simply put, since our body has an ability to heal itself, putting it back with a clean bill is merely promoting it to self heal.
Stimulating an acupoint can be done in two ways – by inserting a hair-like needle or through the use of a firm pressure to massage the acupoints. Acupuncture though triggers a stronger stimulation to activate the body’s innate healing ability than does acupressure, though some might find it too invasive than acupressure. There are other therapeutic methods used for acupressure like deep-tissue massage, laser acupuncture, cupping, qua sha, and others.
Most easterners believe that acupressure is some form of spiritual healing which stimulates a person’s life energy, flowing through a network of meridians in the body to promote general health. Traditional practitioners believe that illness result when these life energy does not flow freely through the body. in the west however, we take the more scientific view that it stimulates nerves beneath the skin and produce pain-relieving substances. The substances produces reduces existing pain and over time, the central pain response of the body is altered and it also reduces chronic pain.
Doing Services The Right Way
Although acupuncture and some other practices that do not use needles are using the same body points and the same philosophies taken from Chinese medicine, they only use body manipulations using the hand and other modalities.

The local points or the trigger points are targeted by a therapist who uses any modality. When we speak of local points, we speak of actual parts of the body that are painful or uncomfortable. Trigger points, on the other hand, are those points connected to the local points. The two points of target that need to be manipulated is derived from a patient’s expressed problem.
You should try either acupuncture or acupressure if you are experiencing pain or movement problem and you are not sure if manipulation your acupoint might work with you.
