Proper Motivation for Elementary School Students
In the process of student learning, every teacher has a desire that all students can get good and satisfying learning outcomes. Types of Learning Motivation:
1. Intrinsic Motivation
This type of motivation arises from within individuals without coercion from the encouragement of others. This motivation is often called “pure motivation”, or actual motivation, arising from students, for example the desire to acquire certain skills, develop attitudes to succeed, and so on.
2. Extrinsic Motivation
This type of motivation arises as a result of influences from outside the individual, either because of invitations, orders, or coercion from others so that with such circumstances students want to do something. Extrinsic motivation is needed at school because studying at school does not attract all interests, or according to student needs. If so, students need to be motivated to learn. The teacher tries to arouse the motivation of students to learn to follow the situation of the students themselves.
Some factors that cause lack of motivation to learn include:
Non-supportive association. Who we associate with determines what we will become. If we hang out with people who prefer to spend time hanging out, playing games, rah-rah and so on, we will get carried away. Learning will be the last thing to do.
Families that are not harmonious will disrupt the concentration of learning. Family problems will “damage the atmosphere” and make conditions uncomfortable. The support and guidance expected from the family was not there. They are more busy thinking about their own problems.
Parents’ expectations are too high or low. Every parent must have hope for their children. If parents’ expectations are too high, it will be a heavy burden for their children. Finally, children will feel burdened by the target parents
