Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S25 Ultra are reporting significant performance problems after installing the July 2026 Android security patch. The update, which has rolled out to a variety of Samsung devices, is causing specific issues for users of the flagship Ultra models, including rapid battery drain and unexpected overheating.
Drastic Battery Loss Reported by Users
According to reports on Reddit and the Samsung Community forum, the problems began shortly after the update was installed. One Galaxy S25 Ultra user claimed that his battery life was normal before the update but dropped from approximately 85% at midnight to nearly 5% by midday. He noted that his screen-on time was only about two hours during that period.
The affected user stated that the phone is losing 5 to 7% of its charge every hour while sitting idle. This level of drain is unusual and has not been reported prior to the July update. A Galaxy S24 Ultra owner echoed similar concerns, stating that the battery previously lasted the entire day but has since become noticeably worse.
Reddit is filled with similar complaints from users of both devices. The issue appears to be widespread, affecting a significant number of people who have recently installed the latest security patch. Many users have also noted that charging speeds have dropped significantly since the update.
Overheating and No Official Response
In addition to battery problems, several users have reported that their phones are running much hotter than usual after the update. The combination of heat and rapid power loss suggests that the software changes introduced in the July 2026 security patch may be causing background processes to consume resources more aggressively than intended. When a flagship device runs hot and dies within a few hours, it forces users into a cycle of constant charging. This behavior undermines the utility of a premium device that should ideally last a full day of typical usage. The inconvenience is compounded by the fact that these are high-end machines, yet they are failing to meet basic performance standards immediately following a routine maintenance update.

He said that the issues started after the latest July update as well. He simply said that the battery lasted the entire day before, and now it’s noticeably worse. Other users confirmed issues with the battery drain, while others reported that their phones are running way hotter than usual. Some users are even reporting that charging speeds have dropped as well. Reddit is also filled with complaints/experiences from users of the two devices, as this issue seems to be affecting quite a few people.
At the time of writing this article, Samsung has not released an official statement regarding this nor acknowledged the issue. Let’s hope that will happen soon, either that or better yet, a fix itself.
